The Labyrinth is a level in the game IMSCARED, first appearing in the 2016 Steam release. It precedes the basement, and follows the Parlor. This map is known for its mechanic of switching between a light and dark world by interacting with stone statues.

Appearance[]

The Labyrinth is a large hedge maze, a green gate locking half of the maze from the other. There are various stone statues scattered throughout the map, as well as several objects from a typical playground. Lots of lampposts have been scattered around the map too, although they don't emit any light.

Walkthrough[]

Once you climb down the rope from the Parlor, follow the only path you can go. Soon you will come across a black text box. It says:

"I found a way to help you while in game

reduce the window with F4 KEY and check the game folder for here.txt

The solution lies there"

Here.txt contains a map of the hedge maze, as well as a Youtube link. This link will send you to a video which shows you a secret passage. However, this secret passage is a trick, as the only thing you will find at the end of the passage is a text box which says: "You fell for it". Check the game folder again. You will find a HTML file called "realone". This file will open up a document inside your browser when opened. This document shows you an expanded map of the hedge maze, as well as another secret passage. This document also contains all of the mirror codes, which will be used later.

Go through the new secret passage and go right to get the Labyrinth Key. However, the green gate will still be locked even after collecting the key. To open the green gate, check the game folder for "lock.txt". Delete this file, and the locked gate will now be unlocked. To access the basement, you must acquire a mirror code. Follow the tile path and you'll end up in the larger part of the hedge maze. Explore the maze, and you'll find a big circular mirror in the middle of the maze. The mirror is broken, so you must find and collect all mirror shards.

Unfortunately, there are many locked gates scattered around the large maze, preventing the player from accessing many of the other statues. To access the other areas, you must find a statue of a headless woman behind the mirror and press E on it. The atmosphere will change to a dark, moody, rainy environment. This allows you to pass through the locked gates in the maze (but not the ones outside of it). Once you find a mirror shard, the shard will be placed onto the mirror automatically (unless you are playing on the 2022 update, then you must place the shard yourself by pressing E on the mirror each time you get one of them). There are four shards in total, two of them are near two dark grey statues of a woman holding a bush/leaves. One of them is near a grey statue with "HELP ME" written on it. The final one is behind HER. The shards only become visible, after the player goes into the dark world, but they are only collectable in the normal world. Once you collected all four shards, go back to the dark world and look at the mirror. You will see text written in blood on the ground. This text is one of the many mirror codes. Find the one you are looking for in the "realone" HTML file, and input the code on the locked gate.

Once you go through the gate, you will be back in the basement. Go into the room with the beds and bookshelves, and search the drawers near the white beds for the Station Key. Use the key on one of the doors to access the Station.

Secrets[]

  • Upon searching through the maze, there is a white being that seems to have a humanoid body but no head. It's leg is held up by a rope, suspending it in the air. Upon interacting with it using E, the player will be launched into a dark cell with a locked gate and eerie noises. The achievement "Thanks for Staying" will be awarded simply by standing next to the entity for a few seconds. Pressing E on it yet again will transport you back to how it was before.
  • Outside of the map in the 2016 version, there is a White Face that watches the player, it can only be seen normally through one of the statues in the maze, and does nothing.
  • Meanwhile in the 2022 Update, ahead from the mirror, outside the maze is a faceless version of Restorer that upon being interacted with, takes you to the dark version of the maze like all the other interactive statues, it is unknown if she has a purpose other than that. She can also be found in the Loneliness version of the map, inside the maze rather than outside of it, along with her, the different stuff in the maze has seemingly swapped places with each other, the mirror now broken and empty and located where the mannequin once was, and where the mirror normally is, there is just a singular piece of a mirror shard. Nothing in the maze can be interacted with (Can only be accessed via hacking).

Trivia[]

  • One of the shards is behind HER. You can find her at the bottom right end of the bigger maze (if you are looking at the maze from a bird's eye view). Pressing E on HER will trigger a fake chase sequence. If HER catches you, she will dissappear. If you run, HER will dissapear after a few seconds. After HER dissapears, the shard will spawn. This will only happen when you are in the dark world.
  • Encountering the text box that says "You fell for it" will change all text boxes in the map to display "You fell for it".
  • After you complete the game, you are able to explore most of the Labyrinth. Both secret passages have been closed off, but still exist, as you can see them from the balcony of the Parlor (2022 Update only).
  • Despite there being dozens upon dozens of mirror codes in the realone.html file, only 5 of them are actually used, as making graphics for every single one would take up a lot of storage.
    • One of them is "Please laugh more", the code being 51947.
    • Another one is "Void treatment", the code being 93934.
    • Another one is "Hatred bond", the code being 15204.
    • The fourth one is "An old photo", the code being 47725.
    • The final one is "Bird Wings", the code being 59174.
